If you remember, last month, the PSP along with the DS saw a decline in hardware sales, due to the sluggish month of May. In total, 221,000 PSP’s left the store shelves and ended up in the consumer’s hands. Remember that this was the month that Grand Theft Auto 4 was released.
For May, the outlook was much more solid than it had been in the previous month. Pushing 337,400 handheld consoles, the PSP saw quite the jump when it increased the number of consoles sold by a full 185%! A portion of the sales cold probably be contributed to the release of the new God of War bundle which came out in the very beginning of the month. It beat out the Xbox 360 and Playstation 2 in terms of hardware sales this month, but not the Playstation 3, as it has in the past. The reason? Metal Gear Solid 4.
On the side, the Wii and DS dominated most of the console market once again by a long shot, despite the release of the highly anticipated MGS4, which sold a very good number of PS3’s.
