Iron Man review:
Released: May 2nd, 2008

Unfortunately, Iron Man for the PSP is just another example of a bad movie game. The developers concentrated on Iron Man himself too much and not the game around him. Some aspects are nice but it’s very little compared to the rest of the game… which is bad, if you haven’t guessed.

Presentation: 3

At times it felt kind of bland and not very impressive at all. It pales in comparison to how the movie is altogether. When you start up the game, it gives the “Developers Screen” and then the “Start New Game” screen. No intro, nothing. What about the cutscenes? Well, they’re not bad actually, but if you don’t know anything about Iron Man you’ll be lost beyond belief, as a matter of fact, I was so lost that I wanted to quit playing after the first level… But I couldn’t, I had a job to do!!!

Graphics: 4

Extremely subpar for a PSP game. A good looking PSP game has nice textures and good models, even the 2D games are good when they look sharp… But NONE of that is here. The textures are sloppy, bland, and because of it, it’s hard to play without getting a headache. It looks like they did the textures with MS paint. The models on the other hand… are just as bad. The effects of weapons and such aren’t too bad, but subpar compared to a bunch of other good games on the PSP. All in all, the game looks like the developers focused %70 of their workforce and time on Iron Man, %10 on the rest of the game, and %20 on bathroom breaks and such.

Sound: 4

Just like the graphics, the sound isn’t good either, most of the time spent on the sound was probably spent on Iron Man. The enemies sounded generic, the weapons sounded generic and the footsteps, of course, sounded generic. But like I said, Iron Man was the only one who got any attention. His weapons sound a little better, and so do his suit effects. The voice acting though… It sounded as if the voice actors came in the studio for a few hours, blabbered the lines out on the microphone and left the studio with half of their latte still in hand. (That means they did as bad a job as they could).

Gameplay: 5

Right off the bat, the gameplay fell into darkness when I wasn’t able to change the controls, which was very annoying for me and anyone else who plays with “Advanced FPS” controls on a PSP (Analog stick for looking and face buttons for movement), the game’s controls was the other way around, being “Standard.” This fact really, really annoyed me. But other than that, it was a little boring for the most part… Some flying, some walking some heat blast thingy… and that’s all.

Lasting Appeal: 4

I’m sorry, but I couldn’t finish the game, it was so hard for me to play towards the end of the game… The torture of the awful sound, graphics, gameplay and the spoilers of the movie, really, really made me stop playing it.

But I did get through a few hours, about 4 hours or so. But after the story, there is no bonus features or anything of the sort… As far as I know…

Final Word: 20/50 Bad!

Seriously, waste $30 on tickets for the movie, 3 cups of Coke, and 4 tubs of popcorn (with cheese and butter).
